The gym that is.

It has been a long time since I have set foot in a gym. As a matter of fact, it’s been precisely: 4 months, 31 days, 10 hours, and 53 seconds. Nah, just kidding. I’m not that crazy.

Let me give you a little recap:

Mr. B and I broke up with the YMCA a couple of weeks ago. Breakups are hard. I mean, we have been members of the Y for almost five years. We’ve sweated on the treadmill, lifted weights with men that looked like ogers, and attended one spin class that almost sent Mr. B into cardiac arrest.

But, at the end of each workout something wasn’t right. Something was missing. Mr. B and I began to slowly distance ourselves from the Y. We started do trail runs, hiking, biking, etc. The more workouts we did away from the Y the sooner we realized the Y wasn’t meeting our needs.

 The breakup was enviable.

We explained to the Y, “It’s not you, it’s us. It’s not your out dated clunky treadmills that we didn’t enjoy, we just like to run outside. It’s not your 1970’s locker rooms with green carpet that kept us from changing there, we just have body image issues. It’s not your lack of exercises classes with teachers who aren’t certified that kept us from attending, we just find men wearing spandex unappealing.”

The Y replied back, “I can change. I can be better. I swear.” But, it was too late. We had made up our minds.

So, with a single click of the mouse we canceled the automatic bill payment, and our relationship with the Y officially ended. Five years gone.Vanished.

It took us a moment to fully realize that our relationship with the YMCA had ended. But, it had to be done. We moped around for a couple days asking ourselves, maybe we were just being too harsh? I’m sure the Y will upgrade soon? Did we make a mistake?

Sigh.

“What shall we do now?”, asked Mr. B. I didn’t have an answer. What were we going to do?

Thanks to lovely Internet I found The Colorado Athletic Club.  This place is lights out fantastic. It has a saline pool, real yoga classes, and happy hours! It was everything we wanted and more!

We have our first date with the CAC tonight. I’m nervous. Like sweating palm nervous. I hope CAC likes us.

Wish us luck!
