Happy {after} the 4th of July!

Did you have a nice holiday? Do anything fun? Have any Roman candle wars? Seriously, aren’t those the best?

Yes, okay, I realize Roman candle wars are SUPER dangerous. I do not condone Roman candle wars for any reason, unless, your little brother starts it first. Then, immediate retaliation is required.

In a way, I’m kind of bummed the 4th is over. So much excitement and anticipation goes into celebrating America’s birthday, that the next day, you get an Ameri-CAN hangover. Am I right? A girl can only devour  so many juicy burgers and bowls of home-made ice cream while lighting forty-seven snakes on the driveway. It can be exhausting.

Well, I have a cure for this holiday hangover. Have you ever drank a mule? Uh, no, not that kind of mule. I’m referring to the gingery Moscow Mule. I didn’t know about this drink until a couple of years ago when we were at the lake. My sister-in-law, Kitty, whipped me up this refreshing cocktail and I was immediately smitten!

This is also the same summer where I learned my mother got a little tipsy in college at a dinner party thrown by her Russian college professor. Can you guess the drink? Yep, a Moscow Mule.

Anyways, I thought it would be fun to mix up the standard Mule and give it a true summer glow. I found this recipe over at Food and Wine and knew I had to share it with y’all. Don’t worry, everything else is still the same – vodka, ginger beer, and lime. But the piece de’ resistance is, mango nectar. If you can’t find mango nectar, you can simply use mango juice or squeeze a large mango. Any of these ways will work.

The mango adds depth of flavor and really kicks up the ginger effervescence. Plus, it has my favorite, the candied ginger garnish. It’s the little things, folks.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a little brother to find…
