Turkish Spiced Meatball Subs

Back again.

With another meatball recipe.

You guys know my love for the meaty-ball. Wait. That doesn’t sound right at all. Where are my manners?

Turkish Spiced Meatball Subs

What I am trying to say is I’m back with another delicious meatball recipe for your face. Better? In the past I’ve made y’all: French Onion Meatball Subs, Mediterranean Chicken Meatballs Skewers, Butter Turkey Meatball Subs, Loaded Sweet & Sour Thai Turkey Meatball Subs, and so much more! Maybe I have a fettish for juicy balls? And….I’m out.

Yes, a meatball sub is my favorite sandwich of all time. The above recipes can hang and are great go-to’s, but today’s recipe is killer. Turkish Spiced Meatball Subs are taking over my life.

Turkish Spiced Meatball Subs

First of all, let’s talk about the spice. The spice is what makes these meatballs an 11/10 situation. A mixture of cumin, sumac, paprika, oregano, and cilantro. Turkish seasoning isn’t spicy in case you are worried about breathing fire. The spice is more of a warmth to the palate. Sprinkle the seasoning into the meatball mixture and start rolling.

You’ll bake these meatballs to keep them nice and moist. Once baked cover with tomato sauce and grated mozzarella cheese…..I mean, what could be better?

Now, are you ready to get your meatball on?

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black ground pepper
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp dried cilantro
  • 1 tsp ground sumac
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup panko
  • 1 small shallot, diced
  • 1 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 15oz cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 4 brioche or hoagie rolls

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl combine cumin, black pepper, paprika, cayenne, oregano, cilantro, sumac and salt. In another large bowl add the ground beef, panko, shallot, garlic, and egg along with 1 1/2 tbsp of the spice mixture. Form into 12 meatballs and place on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 12 to 15 minutes.
  3. While the meatballs cook, preheat a medium skillet to medium-high heat and add the two cans of tomato sauce and another 1/2 tbsp of the Turkish seasoning. Stir to combine and heat through.
  4. Place four brioche rolls on another baking sheet. Take three meatballs and stuff them into each brioche roll. Top the meatballs with the tomato sauce and some of the shredded mozzarella. Place the subs back into the oven to allow the cheese to melt. Once melted, remove the subs from the oven and serve immediately!
